Welcome to Megan Limpus, our guest speaker.
The International toast was delivered by David Johnston to the Rotary Club of Shetland which has between 20 and 30 members, was established in 1952 in district 1320. They meet on a Wednesday at 7pm at the Lerwick Hotel, led by President Robert Anderson.
The club has a long-running relationship with Prostate Scotland, delivering multiple annual projects:
- Film screening fundraiser — A special showing of 2001: A Space Odyssey at Mareel to raise funds and awareness about prostate cancer.
- Static bike challenge — Previously held at the Co‑op carpark to find “Shetland’s fastest cyclist”; paused due to logistics but historically a major fundraiser.
- Pilgrimage walk — Member Paul Bendix undertook a 500‑mile Camino de Santiago walk to raise funds.
- Memorial donations — £600 donated to Prostate Scotland in memory of long‑time member David Anderson.
President Peter Asher spoke of the club arranging a number of Shelter Bags -
These will be donated to the homeless and can be bought by members for $110. If you wish to support this cause - there are still 5 or 6 available - talk to Peter.
He then introduced PP David Wallis who presented a Sapphire PHF to Tony Long for services to our club and the community and his outstanding efforts organising the Annual Golf Day event again. Tony took the opportunity to remind members of the Golf Day on the 9th of October, make sure its in your diary. He also advised we have hit the 30 sponsored teams mark! Suzanne Leigh Archer asked for support for the Golf Day in the form of bottles of wine for the raffles!
Bruce Radford advised on the continued success of RYDA and noted a great editorial in the My Weekly Preview magazine. Great PR for Calpac and Rotary generally.
The RYDA trailer is now parked and the BBQ trailer is being readied.
Mike Healy advised of the results of the survey regarding district amalgamation, our club is broadly in support.

We are conducting more mock interviews for CSH, thanks to Geoff Leddy, Win Fowles and Peter Hovey. Good feedback on how useful it is and well the students participated.
The early organisation for the Christmas Trailer raffle is underway as announced by Greig LA. If you have any new items that could be included please donate. Looks like Hear4Good is the ticket sponsor - thanks!
Eve introduced the guest speaker, Megan Limpus, who is a local small business owner and entrepreneur. Her business is Blooming Healthy Studio.
In 2014 she found herself unwell whilst working on an organic farm, it was eventually traced back to allergies. She pivoted to a health education pathway, which in turn lead to a studio space to run workshops. Then COVID hit. She moved into making heat packs in her home and selling them initially through markets and word of mouth. She likes keeping her business small because it allows for community connection.
Her unique heat packs do not contain wheat but lupins which have very little irritation factor and do not give off any moisture.
A couple of our members were seen getting up close and personal with this attractive model but their photos have not been published to protect the innocent!
She now has a retail space in the Strand Cinema complex in Caloundra as well as at the sunshine coast markets. She has expanded her product range and manufacturing capability.
Megan then made the generous offer of donating to provide a Shelter Bag and offered to donate prizes for the Golf Day and Christmas Trailer Raffle; a big thank you!
Riki Tiki was won by Eve - who tried hard to get every question wrong!
The sgt session was completed by Win Fowles using members initials in reverse alphabetical order, no one missed out on paying!
